Mark,

I am brand new member. Pleased to be here. I am in purchase process on 2000 3000 Express with same engines (1600 hours). I am concerned with thru hull leaks and balsa rot, tanks low in the bilge and subject to bilge bath, and engines discontinued and not supported. What are your thoughts and any other issues that you have encountered. Many thanks.

Congratulations on the new purchase. I have not had any problems with my fuel tanks, but I am crazy about keeping my bilges dry. A problem that has come up on other inboard powered Pursuits is rot by the air intakes on the side of the hull. This is an area that a surveyor needs to hit with a moisture meter. So far mine are ok. But I did reseal the intakes years ago to help keep them dry. This year I discovered a soft spot on the foredeck by the windlass. I am having that fixed over the winter. Honestly I think it may have rotted from the inside of the rope locker. I will make sure that hatch is open during winter storage. I have done quite a lot of work over the years on the boat. You may want to replace the shaft seals from Tides Marine with their new model. The original model was updated years ago, it can fail. If you have a straight blue hose on the shaft there that needs to be replaced with a model that has a hump hose. I actually removed the bronze thru-hull and glassed in a new shaft log. I removed the center battery for more room and tied the house to the port engine battery. Removed cummins air filters and replaced with S& B filters. Starboard engine oil filter was moved with a remote kit to the front of the engine. On and on! Anything to get more room. Better check your exhaust elbows. Have they been repaired or replaced? If they are bad a rebuild

I am not sure if you have gone through with your purchase, but I thought I would contact you. Our boat is on Long Island NY, and we just put an offer on a boat up on the Great Lakes where would would keep her. My boat has less than 600 hours right now. If you are not interested that's fine and again congratulations.

Mark
