Just placed my deposit - need engine advice

Postby MikeVJ » Mon Mar 05, 2012 10:49 pm

Hope I'm not jumping the gun too badly here - but I just placed my deposit on a '94 Pursuit 2350 Walkaround with a '94 Yamaha 225hp (Saltwater Series). Yamaha gauges read 700 hours.

I'm sea-trial'ing her on Friday (weather permitting). The entire rig looks well maintained. My surveyor tells me I should expect to see the motor reach the Yamaha spec top RPM (or darn near it) as far as overall "health" goes.

Assuming it's properly prop'd - what is the top RPM I should expect to see for this engine?
5400 RPM?
5600 RPM?

I can't find any official spec sheets for this older Yamaha. I'm reading almost everywhere they have a great reputation, and many owners love 'em (but need help with these particular numbers).

Thanks,

Michael

Make sure to check the shift shaft and steering arm for major rust. I do belive the they went stainless in 95 or 96. The powerhead has to come off to do the shift shaft! Sorry for the late post, enjoy the new boat!
