2870 Pursuit c/w twin yamaha 200's

Postby summitradon » Thu Apr 11, 2013 10:37 am

Hello there,
Alan Ferguson (Fergy) here.
Looking seriously at a 1998 pursuit 2870 center console.
Engines are in the process of being rebuilt after rings seizure caused low compression and failure of earlier sale.
Boat looks to be in really good shape and the motors are being rebuilt. Only had 660 hours on the motors and according to the mechanic who is competing the rebuild the ring issue came from lack of use. Boat was too much for a slightly older person.
Can anyone tell me what hull issues I should be looking at with this boat.?
I will get it surveyed but would like to know up front before going too much further.
It was this 98 2870 or a 95 2600 with a single marine power 8.1 L vortec V-8. Both boats in good shape for the year but the 2870 is 3 years newer and comes with a trailer.
Regards,
Alan Ferguson.

You will like the 2870, it has a great ride then again so does the 2600. I personally prefer the 2870 with twins and some will say it is under powered with the twin 200's, i have a 2870 WAC with twin 225's and it does great and is a heavier boat. On boats this size i do not know if a survey is really necessary if you have been around boats before and know what to look for. If you do get a survey make sure you are there to observe and ask questions, i have been reading online lately about poor survey work due to the purchaser not being present, and i am not saying all are bad but a good surveyor will be more than happy to have you there.
