Re-power 3000 Offshore

Postby fabalc » Thu Aug 30, 2012 6:12 pm

Just completed my re-power from Gas to Diesel on a Pursuit 3000 (Cummins 6BT)

I launched it today and found the the vessel "lists" or heavier starboard. The only thing I can blame is the generator installation. The vessel had a westerbeke and I replaced it with a kohler (diesel). The generator portion of the plant does infringe a bit starboard but did not think much of it during the installation.

When I stand on the Port side, the vessel evens out (230 lbs) but the exhausts are almost completely below the water line. Don't know if I should turn the generator in-line with the stringers or add weight to the port side amidship "ouch" what about the exhaust being under water...

Have you heard anything like this happening on a Pursuit 3000 Offshore?

You don't want to add weight that's for sure. I have a 3000 Express and the original owner got it with a fridge aft of the helm seat. The water tank is also on the starboard side. With full water the boat is an inch heavy on the starboard side. If you can. center the generator and see how she sits. Maybe if you put it fore and aft you could slide it forward between the mains to put some weight up front and get the stern up at rest. Not sure if the exhaust being under will create back pressure that is above allowable amounts. You have to realize that you probably just doubled or more the weight of the power plants.
