Repowering a 1999 Pursuit 2870 CC ????

Postby ck1965 » Fri Apr 15, 2016 10:04 am

I am going to re-power my 1999 Pursuit 2870 cc, and looking for a little advice from anyone who has done so.

The boat currently has twin yammaha OX66 225hp, it gets the boat going just fine and will do 50 mph wide open. (owned the boat for 2 years gone WOT twice). I am in Fort Lauderdale and use the boat primarily for trolling and family cruises.

I am looking at putting new twin 200hp suziki's on it (the boat is only rated for 450hp max). I can save myself a decent amount of money by going down 50 hp. I have seen the same boat for sale on boat trader with twin 200 hdpi's. But I don't know how that compares to the new four strokes.

I am wondering has anybody done this and if so does the boat feel grossly under powered. Again, top end is not a big concern I can live with loosing 5 -10 mph on the top end if the boat can get up on plane and decent feel grossly under-powered.

I would love to put new twin 225's on it of course!.... but budget is a concern,

I just don't want to make a BIG MISTAKE.

Thank you so much for any advice.

Hey I'm new to the Group first off hello second off did you end up repowering yet? If not I suggest looking into the Mercury 4 strokes or the optimax. They have some sweet deals right now and you can get extended warranties up to 5 years on them.

CK,
I'm also looking at re-powering my 1997 2870 walkaround. I am concerned about the extra 380 pounds that 2 new four strokes would add. I currently have 200 Yammies on it and they push the boat great. I would love to bump up to 225's, but I may be stuck at 200's now that they have a 4 cylinder, 4 stroke version that is much lighter. I would like to hear from anyone that put V6, 4 strokes on one of these older hulls.
