Bad Fuel Tank

Postby jamesw2066 » Thu Nov 29, 2018 5:28 pm

I have a 3370 with twin 172 Gal fuel tanks and one is leaking. I am very lucky to be here to write this.
Last weekend with the onset of cold weather I went to the boat and powered her up and added a small electric heater to supplement the HVAC. I inadvertently left the hot water tank on. Later that night the breaker at my shore power tripped likely when the water heater and AC powered on......fast forward to yesterday afternoon.
I went to the boat and realized she was dead, batteries run down and discovered the tripped breaker.
I reset the breaker, went down below and brought everything on line. I then tried to start the generator which only turned over and did not start. I went top side and the bilge pump was full on pumping fluids from the bilge and the fumes hit me. I looked at the sheen on the water and realized I was pumping fuel and water overboard. I quickly shut everthing down and upon inspection found 25-30 gallons of fuel in the bilge....Holy S*%^T. Had that generator fired off, I would be dead. At some point this fuel leak occurred in the last 2 weeks, we striper fished the lower Chesapeake bay 2 weeks ago.

So a word of caution-ALWAYS check you bilge for fuel. I never smelled it down below.

Who here has had to deal with a tank replacement on a 3370. It looks to be quite the project given the tank dimensions and the fact that they run all the way to the gunnels? any insight would be much appreciated.

Additionally, the boat has 830 hours, its a 2006- with new generator (original generator sat before I bought it and was not reliable, ice maker, AC( replaced with a better unit),All Garmin HD setup with twin 10" displays with Sonar and side scan, New Garmin auto pilot (still new in the box) Cobia tower. rocket launcher and new battery charger. its also wired with converter's for 24vdc reels.

It is fully set up. I would sell as is with the tank issue. 110K- Is that fair given the tank issue? what do you guys think?

I'd take 120k and include my 4 black 20 wide's, 4 black 50 wide's. 4 gold 80 wides-2 deep drop electric gold 80 wide's and thousands worth of spreader bars, dredges, harpoon, fish bag. Most of which is all from sterling tackle.

I think I am over it. My sons have all moved out and at 53 years young the Harleys and Corvettes I have keep me entertained.

All comments welcome
