Hull Construction and things to look for - 2870

Postby dell30rb » Sun Feb 17, 2019 7:06 pm

Boat shopping this off-season and considering a 2870. Most likely a 96-2002 ish walkaround with 2 strokes (budget around 30k).

I like the 2870. What can you all tell me about how the hull is constructed and what to look for? Wood stringers, cored sides, etc??

Thanks

I have a 99 30 Express. Solid boat but, I just had the coring under the foredeck replaced due to poor sealing of the windlass. Get a moisture meter and check around all hull penetrations. This is a common problem with all modern cored boats using balsa coring. We almost bought a 38 08 Rampage last fall, fresh water 350 hours. It had at least 4 good sized spots with water in the core.
