MPG Denali 2460?

Postby hnt » Tue Jul 26, 2011 10:49 am

Hello,

I am getting used to operating my new-to-me 1996 Denali 2460. I have the 250hp Mercruiser LX efi with Bravo III

I just got my Floscan to read MPG and the best economy cruise is about 2.3 NMPG at 3000rpm. Does this sound about right?

Henry

Well that sounds about in the ballpark. I have a 2003 2470 WA with twin Yamaha 150 HPDI's. At 3300 RPM which is right at 30MPH, I'm burning 12 gph which works out to 2.5 MPG

I have a 1997 2460 repowered from a 300hp big block to a 325 hp 357 mag. Loaded down full of fuel with 3 big guys and gear I tend to see about 2.2 mpg from 3300 rpm up to 3500. I guess the speed makes up for the use of fuel.

What out drive ratio and props are you running?

What is wot and too speed?

Mine is obviously geared and propped for torque is yours the same?

I'm not sure what gear ratio my Bravo III is. I am running 3 blade 22p props. I am able to get to top rpm of 4900 no problem. My top speed is about 45 mph. I'm pretty sure I could swing 24p props but haven't wanted to spend the money on new props to see. Would be interested to see if 24's would increase fuel efficiency.

I just picked up a 1995 2460 yesterday. It has a 5.7l gi Volvo and dp drive. The motor actually appears to be newer then the boat. The cowling makes me think it is more like a 2005ish motor. Assume it is 280hp. I am still trying to figure out things and really only have the 30.minute test drive I did but we were only getting about 30 knots and at best, just over 2nmpg. Boat has bottom paint and the numbers were with full fuel and 3 big guys. Other than that not much gear to add weight. I will update this when I have a chance to test more and really figure out but I am fairly disappointed in the top speed (more from an expectation than what is needed) and slightly disappointed in the economy. Figured I should get 2.5+ at 20-25 knots.
