Tipping point of an OS285?

Postby Edgemere » Fri Jul 27, 2012 11:53 pm

I got caught in some very snotty water in Georgia Strait [British Columbia] and after taking it on the beam to the point that I was getting nervous I turned and ran into it, making the crossing much longer but safer. However the experience got me to thinking: "How many degrees of list would it take for a 285 to roll?". Assume that the boat has full fuel and water tanks. Does anyone have an answer?

I don't have the answer you're looking for but I would think it would take a breaker to turtle your boat. You did the right think by tacking. I would rather get home in one piece than risk losing my boat, or my life!

I agree with YOLO. In fact many times I run to the lee just to make the ride smoother for us all. Also keeps spray off the windshield. If you really need an answer you could try Pursuit Customer Service. I have also delivered 28s and owned a 96 with twin inboard Crusader V-8s. Great boat.
