Increase from the stock HP
It is not just the transom strength, although I bet it could easily handle more hp, but it is also how the boat itself would behave with more power and more speed. If you exceed the max recommended hp I believe you would lose insurance coverage and if you had any type of accident you open yourself up to many legal problems.
