Increase from the stock HP

Hi Folks - I own a 1987 Pursuit 2600 Cuddy, and I would like to increase the HP from the stock 300 HP but I understand there is a modification or addition of some bracing I need to do to the transom that would need to be done before increasing the HP?

Is the 2600 an i/o? Second question, what is the max hp on the capacity plate?
It is not just the transom strength, although I bet it could easily handle more hp, but it is also how the boat itself would behave with more power and more speed. If you exceed the max recommended hp I believe you would lose insurance coverage and if you had any type of accident you open yourself up to many legal problems.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check with the insurance company regarding the added HP. I was told you can by an aftermarket bracket that allows for added HP, but I can't find it. The 2600 has two 150 HP Yamaha's and I was thinking of swapping them out for Merc Verado's.
