2870 Offshore scupper drains low

Postby KeysRentalHouse » Mon Mar 18, 2013 6:20 pm

Hello I am new to this site. We just recently purchased a 2001 Pursuit 2870 Offshore. We love the boat however the scupper drains seem to be really low. The starboard side is actually a little lower than the port. When I (by myself, 195 lbs) stand on the starboard side in the cockpit the scupper is basically under water. When I do the same on the port side, the scupper is about two thirds under the water. I don't have the fuel tanks full, maybe 3/4 and I actually have a little more fuel on the port side. My daughter and I were cleaning the boat over the weekend and the water in the cockpit drains really slow due to the scuppers being partially or fully submersed. Does this make sense? I checked the bilge and there was little to no water. Definitely a bit of a concern. Anyone familiar with this situation?

Is the boat completely stock from 2001? What do you have for power? Do you have a genset?Location, if yes. My 2870, 2003 CC, was the lightest configuration (W/A, Offshore, Center Console), and scuppers were outta the water with fuel tanks full, it had the lighter 200 HPDI's for power.

It could be just the nature of the beast with your power option, While scuppers under the waterline is not ideal, that are there to keep water out, and like any through hull need to be inspected, especially if they have the potential to sink your boat. My friends W/A scuppers are under the waterline sometimes I know, but I don't know if that always or when we have a few people on his boat...I will ask him. I know his boat did stay in the water, and the anti-fouling paint is on his scupper outlets.

Yes it's stock with the same motors you mentioned, Yamaha HPDI 200's. I spoke with a couple of people yesterday that said it's normal the way it sits and that I should check the flaps inside the scuppers to make sure they're clear and no obstructed. One was the person I bought it from and the other was the local Pursuit dealer.

I have the same problem. It's never an issue when underway but if I anchor in a slight chop and have full fuel, water, and cooler full of ice and sodas sitting near the back of the boat (yeah, I know so don't laugh), I get water flowing in and out of scuppers and thru hull, mainly on one side, with the waves.

I looked and could not find the first flap external to either thru hull opening but wondered if there may be a flap or ball valve inside the scupper drain piping. I tried to see with a flashlight but I could never locate one.

My engines are twin Johnson 225's so either way I'd be lighter that any 4 stroke set up. I have no gennie, no a/c, nor tower.

It's funny you mentioned "one side". I thought I was imagining things however the starboard side of the boat will tilt much easier than the port side putting the scupper hole under water. If there's two to three adults standing on the starboard side, the boat will tilt much faster and easier than if you do the same on the port side. It has to be some sort of weight issue I just can't figure out what. At first I thought maybe fuel however I actually have a bit more fuel in the port tank so that makes no sense. I've looked at the drawings to see where all the tanks are located and nothing would make any difference so I am baffled.

Just a follow up on this I contacted Pursuit. The explained that this model year had the rigging on the starboard side so it does "react" faster on that side. I did discover however that if the fresh water tank is full is just about balances it out. I keep that tank full now all the time.
