2000 Pursuit 2270 transom replacement

Has anyone on here done a transom replacement on a 2270 (euro transom) with coosa that can outline how they did it and if they would do it the same way again? I really do t want to cut out the back of the transom but it’s looking like the only option.

Also does anyone know if the stringers in this boat are wood or foam core. I’m guessing g foam because they are massive. Like 11”x11”. Is the hull itself poly resin?

I know this is a very late reply, but it is a big subject that likely affects many Pursuit owners.

I just went through this process and had many concerns. I have a 2270 Kodiak with 200 Yamaha.

Bottom line is I had it done with coosa board instead of marine plywood as was the original material. It cost $4500, so not for the faint of heart. The shop owner warned me that I would never get the money back out of it if I were to sell it. (Much like putting new shingles on a house before selling.)

But I really like my boat and don’t intend to sell it.

Once the shop started cutting, it didn’t seem so bad. They just used an angle grinder to cut the perimeter of the transom. And also the back lips of the decking. Since the wood was mush, it came off in one piece.

Then they cleaned all the wood off everything with a jam saw. That step took a lot of time to get it cleaned.

Then as I remember, two layers of 3/4” coosa and one 1/2” layer of coosa were cut and fitted.

On my boat, the stringers were fiberglass and foam. Shop was afraid the foam would be waterlogged and would require a lot of additional work. But we were good there.

Then epoxying the exterior back onto coosa and glassing. We had the rear color matched and painted by a local body shop.

It was pretty straightforward. If I had it to do over again, the only things I would have done differently would have been to install trim tabs and wiring at the same time. And also had the shop do a couple other small fiberglass ding repairs at the same time.

So if you boat is in good enough shape to not total it, get it done. Just think of it as a big maintenance item.

I’m glad I got it done. And it will make the boat be viable for another three decades!
