livewell gasket

Postby txj33p » Sun Jul 29, 2012 8:23 pm

So I bought a 1988 2550 the other day and have been busy cleaning and repairing a bunch of little things while getting to know the inner working of the boat. I pulled the hatch in front of the motors that the livewell cover is hinged to. The gasket was shot and at some time the previous owner repaired it by caulking the heck out of it. I have been peeling and cleaning caulk for two days and bought some new gasket material from the local boat shop. Now the question is, do I need to put a similar gasket around the top of the livewell to maintain the same hatch level? I cant tell that there was one on it originally and I dont have any pictures which might so the original configuration.

Any thoughts or advise?
