2003 300 Pursuit Express

Postby prinz » Fri May 31, 2013 1:24 pm

Hey Guys,

New member here - I have a 2003 30' Pursuit Express. I've noticed just in the last year that the boat is listing slightly to the port side mid cabin. The through hull fittings on the port side are almost under the water line. Any idea on why this would occur? There is no water in the bilge, no extra equipment, full fuel, empty holding tank (port side) and the fresh water tank (on Starboard side) is full.

Has anyone else seen anything like this? I was reading some threads on the Hull Truth that the 300 Express had some issues with moisture getting into the balsa core of the hull through the thru hull fittings not being sealed properly. Could this possibly be the cause?

Help!

That could be it?? I posted here and THT about mine. But as wet as my core was, i don't think it would be enough to make the boat list. But both port and stb were wet on mine so they balanced lol.

Hi and welcome. I have a 99 3000 with diesels and I have noticed the same thing, but it has always been that way. I believe there is just more weight on that side, the head, the holding tank, hot water heater, refer sinks etc. I have a refer outside under the sink ( some have an ice maker and some a cabinet) and it seems when I load that up with drinks the boat is balanced. Without it it looks to be maybe a half inch off.

I know my boats not the same, but being more just in general about boat, they can lean as Mark pointed out with load out configurations. With a empty holding tank and full water, my boat leans to the fresh water side. Batteries/Gear/Equipment all play a factor in this. I can use some water and make it settle down, but load it up full and its leaning a good 2" lower on the starboard side. That's a 40gal tank.

I have a 99 express and see a slight port list when my fuel tanks are light. I chalk it up to the extra weight on the port side. Once I get my big butt in the captains chair it evens right out!

Now that's funny CG. Unfortunately I have the same ballast issues!

Not that this would be a reason for listing but make sure you check the seal around the engine room vent. The grills on my 3000 express were leaking and I had some rot in the balsa core. Also I added a custom aluminum fuel tank for my kicker under the starboard gunnels so I had to move both starting batteries to the port side to balance things out. Originally I had a slight list to the port.

I have a 1998, 2870 WA and it is listing to STB quite a bit. A rep from the factory told me there is no wood core on this boat? I am also getting rain water leaking into that side of the cabin just under the dash/helm area. I can't seem to track it down.

I had water leaks coming in from the windshield and side windows. I pulled out the rubber seals and removed each screw holding the frame down and sealed each one. Stopped the leaks. I also put a nice bead of silicone around the base of the frame, filling the small gap between the frame and fiberglass.
