S/S exhaust elbows.

Postby MarkT » Sun Jun 16, 2013 10:26 am

It is the summer of gremlins so far. The other day I was going to test run the boat (Pursuit 3000 Exp with Cummins diesels) and wanted to check the raw water pumps with the engines running. To see the port pump I take off the air filter and lay on top of the engine. When I did this I noticed the turbo was not spinning. After I shut down the engine I tried to free it up and did, but it was obviously not right. The next day I drained the coolant (water cooled turbo) and took off the turbo and elbow. I found the elbow was allowing water into the inner exhaust pipe before the mixer, and the inside of the turbo was a rust bucket. I took the turbo apart and had the local auto machine shop bead blast it, it now looks like new. I searched around for a new elbow, Cummins retail is around $2200. A marine exhaust shop would make one for $1500. I found a place out on Tacoma that rebuilds what you have for $800, $920 if you want the water jacket ceramic coated. It cost me $64 to send it out there from NY insured for $2000. The name of the shop is Greenwater Marine Exhaust. I should have the pipe back in a week and if there are any issues I will let you know. After searching online and reading his reviews it looks like a no brainer.
