Anti Siphon Valve causing fuel starvation after idling

Postby Irregardless » Mon Mar 13, 2017 11:57 pm

I have a 2005 Pursuit 2570 with twin 150 Yamaha 4 strokes. They run great normally. When I run at idle speed for 10 plus minutes one or the other conks out. I called my technician when it happened the second time and he said to pump the fuel primer bulb. I did and it started right up. He said the problem it is the anti siphon valve. He wants to do the following.

Replace the fuel lines.
Remove the anti siphon valve. (and not replace)
and
Move the fuel primer bulb to the other side of the fuel filter so that it is between the engine and the filter. (not where it is now between the filter and the tank)

From what I understand the anti siphon valves are a safety feature to keep fuel from siphoning out of the tank and into the bilge if a hose ruptures. It is a Coast Guard requirement IF the engine is below the tank. I believe the engine is considered above the tank in an outboard setup.

Reading everything I could find on the internet, it seems the preferred location for the primer bulb is as he recommends although it seems to work fine in either location. Also Pursuit Boats even on the 2015 models still have the bulb before the filter.

Has anyone had any experience regarding these two issues?
My technician's work has been very thorough and professional so far. I just want to make sure I doing the right thing.

Anti Siphon Valve causing fuel starvation after idling

I used to set up many new boats when I worked for a government agency. I always had the primer bulb after the filter for that reason, and the only time I had trouble was when the bulb went bad over time, maybe from the newer gas.
