3000 Fuel tank replacement

Postby bobbruce » Mon Aug 05, 2024 3:51 pm

Hey guys, just got back from a long weekend on the boat. It's a 99 3000 . I believe my fuel tank is leaking. Anyone have any pictures ,sketches ,advice or leads on tank manufacturers. Also where to cut my frigging floor wide open...

Thx in advance. Bob

Hi Bob, The tanks where built by Florida marine tanks (FMT) the part numbers for the tanks are shown in the pic, I have several pics of the fuel tanks installed in the boat without the deck
on, will look for them when I get home.

I have attached two other pics showing parts of the tanks in the build process.

3000 Fuel tank replacement

Postby bobbruce » Fri Aug 09, 2024 9:07 pm

Thx Dan. I've pumped my port side to the starboard tank so I can hang in there and use the boat til I can pull it for winter storage. Of course I have cleaned and removed all of the gas from the bilges... gonna make up a set of fuel crossover valve to pull from one side or the other or both. Can't hurt to have that option moving forward. I'm hoping the center of the floor beetween the tanks is resting on structure and not set in epoxy or adhesive. Your pictures are helping me see what I can't. Keep um coming, if you can. I owe ya...

I do have a pic showing both tanks in the boat during the build process, having trouble finding it, did find another (attached)

From what Ive seen on mine the tanks are not foamed or glassed in, they are secured to the engine room and aft bulkheads with brackets - (circled in attached pic)

Bob,
Can you take some more high res pics from different angles while the tanks are out?
Have your deck plates been leaking?
Now might be the time to inspect the lift mufflers and fiberglass exhaust tube for fatigue and change the exhaust hoses.

Also a good time to change the two thru hulls/hoses on the starb side for the aft bilge pump/fishbox, Gemlux makes the only stainless 11/8 90 that fits in there - you should be able to reach up into the area while the tank is out.
