Strut alignment

Well so my transmission project has hit an issue. Not one which is unsolvable I don’t think but is a bit of an issue. Looks like I am out of adjustment on the front of the motor. So in order to get the shaft alignment right I am going to need to shim strut some.

Planning to drop the strut loose and then clean the hull up. Take some thicko thickened epoxy and put a bed of it on top of the strut with wax paper between it and the strut. Bolt the strut back up in place getting the alignment right and letting it cure. Then we will pull the strut down seal it and bolt it back up.

Anyone done anything like this on a 3000 express. I am hoping it all goes as planned and works out

Dan

Don’t have enough adjustment down on front so in order to align the coupling had to lift back which raised the shaft in log and binds the cutlass.

So I now have a new 2 piece engine mount designed to give me an additional 3/4” down adjustment. 3D printing tonight to check it out and will make them next week if we like it. Just another stresser that I knew was coming deep down

A few years back when I replaced my shaft log hose I was concerned with my bronze housing. I cut it off and put the shaft back in and bolted it up. I had a cutlass bearing on the shaft and a piece of fiberglass tube on that. I put that up where the original shaft log was and epoxied it in place. Once the Six/10 set up I removed the cutlass bearing and reassembled. Hitting it with a hammer it was very solid. And I did talk with people at West Systems to make sure I was using the right epoxy. Those shafts never spun so easily after that. Doing that may give you what you need for room.

Mark as always that is some awesome work. I will most definitely keep it in mind here if the mounts don’t work. Made some changes to the mounts to make them a little easier to
Make and I think they are going to be real nice now
