Spreader Light on 3000 Exp.

Postby MarkT » Wed May 31, 2017 12:18 pm

Well a new year and another upgrade! After installing the new electronics last year, I wanted to remove the single Hobbs spreader light mounted on the aft end of the hardtop. Years ago I installed an aluminum mast on the hardtop and figured this was a great spot for an LED or two. I looked around and settled on two small flush mount LEDs from Rigid Industries. Installation was a breeze. I removed the old spreader light and ran the wire back under the hardtop and extended the wire to run up inside the mast. I used a 1.75 inch hole saw for the lights and wired it all up. It looks good to me but I wanted to see if I had enough light in the cockpit. I did not need to worry as the tiny LEDs put out plenty of light. I filled and wet sanded the original mounting holes in the hardtop and we are good to go.
I saw that FLIR just came out with a much more affordable night vision, maybe that is the next project!
