2800 WA Macerator

Postby Equus » Sun May 24, 2015 9:47 pm

I have a '97 2800WA with twin 350 Crusaders. Prior owner installed elec head. Is it necessary to use macerator or is it unnecessary now given access to vacuflush to empty holding tank?

The macerator is usually used to discharge overboard from the holding tank, which you can only do off shore. I think the limit is 2 miles?

macerator appears to be before the y valve for overboard/holding tank.. so was thinking maybe macerator improves the ability to pump out holding tank by "treating" waste before it gets to holding tank?

The macerator is strictly for pumping overboard.

That can't be right! The macerator should be after the "y" valve and as YOLO said it is used for overboard discharge. As it is installed you would be pulling waste through the macerator at a pump out station. Without the macerator running I could see it getting blocked easily at the pump out.
I had a 96 28 WA, same engines. That boat was like a muscle car out there, loved the sound. Where do you boat out of? I am out east on the Peconic but know the Sound very well. I was stationed at Eaton's Neck CG Station a few centuries ago!
