Alarm

Postby Jimferrie » Thu May 27, 2021 12:01 am

I have a 1999 pursuit express 3000. When you start the engines alarm sounds when you press the start button until the engine starts. After the engine starts the alarms turn off. Currently when I start my port engine the alarm stays on. Oil pressure and temperature are OK. Any suggestions on where to look for the problem would be appreciated. Also the vessel has twin Cummins diesel 4 cyl engines

Thanks I read that also as both the oil pressure and temperature are good I’m thinking may be a faulty sensor? I read somewhere that it could be tied into the high water alarm for the port engine also

The low pressure alarm switch is prone to failure, dont bother with the cheap aftermarket ones available from autoparts stores, they cant handle the vibrations of the 4cyl diesel.

You can test the switch simply by pulling off the single wire, the alarm should stop, the switch is located next to the oil filter.

The Stuart Warner part number for the switch is 364L-F

Jim, Dan1 and I have the same boat/engine combination you have. Don't forget to check the transmission alarm sender also. Until I bought mine from Seaboard Marine they failed on a regular (yearly) basis.
Where are you located?

This reply is from my diesel engine experience. Usually if you have oil pressure and not over temp the problem is with the sending unit.
