Batteries Not Charging - 2001 3000 Express

Postby Wayoutwest » Sat Jan 07, 2017 11:44 am

I have a 2001 Pursuit Express and I'm having issues with my batteries not charging. They don't charge under engine or shore power. Because of TABS isolation, my starting batteries seem to stay pretty strong, but my house batteries stay below 10 volts.

Any thoughts on what may be causing this? Does anyone know where the actual AC charger is located?

All AC and D.C. Circuits and associated electronics and appliances seem to work, so I don't think it's a circuit issue. All lights turn on on TABS, so it doesn't seem to be there.

If I recall, when they were charging, when I would turn on the D.C. Charger, there used to be a somewhat noticeable uptick in the battery volt meter and an audible electrical engagement sound. Now, when I turn on the battery charger while under shore power, the light turns on, but the amp gauge is idle at 0 and the batteries don't charge..

Any recos would be much appreciated.

Batteries Not Charging - 2001 3000 Express

Since my boat is wrapped I have to go by memory. Isn't the charger under the steps down to the cabin? How old are the batteries? Do they have water in them? I have thought at times that I had a charging problem that turned out to be low battery water. I have also had batteries that were just old and would not take a charge anymore. To check this get a voltmeter and hook it up to your batteries, one at a time. Look at the voltage and see if it goes up when you hit the charger. Also check the battery connections at both ends, they can be loose or dirty.
