Anchor Locker Capacity

Postby Johnsodaj » Wed Jan 28, 2015 12:22 pm

I have a 2001 3070 Offshore. I have a Simpson Lawrence (Lewmar now) Sprint 1000 Windlass that takes 9/16" three strand nylon anchor line w/ 5/16" chain. I bought the boat last year. The previous owners had about 180' of anchor line with 20' of chain. I was looking to get some new rode and while I'm replacing was wondering how many feet of line the anchor locker would hold. With the 180', the locker looked to me to be less than half full but there is no real science to that observation. I've searched everywhere for a "capacity" figure that would be somewhat official but have been striking out. Was hoping that some of you with the same boat could comment on how much line you carry. Was hoping to at least carry 300 if not 400 feet. at a 7:1 ratio, that's safely 40 to 60 feet of water depth. I'd also like to use it as the main line for my sea anchor. at 10:1 ratio for a 30 foot boat, 300 ft is about the right length for that. Thanks, in advance, for your thoughts.
