Engines out!

Besides some home projects, we are moving forward on the boat. Engines are out after being tested for performance, well within the factory specs. There are a few issues I want taken care of, trying to make servicing easier and a few small oil "weeps" not leaks. All in all not bad for a 20 year old boat. With them out I am replacing the water heater and cleaning up the bilges.

Almost forgot, all new engine mounts. After 20 years they are toast!

Engines out!

Engines are apart, heads are off and things are looking good. Cylinder bore cross hatch still visible in all bores. Now with 600 hours I am surprised to see almost all exhaust valves are leaking so it is valve job time. My biggest worry is now the after coolers. Only the starboard cooler was apart today, and it shows there was a small leak in the housing. The seal areas have no pitting so I may have dodged a bullet, fingers crossed for the other side. These are not made anymore, and I have not seen any available new or used. The injection pumps will be sent out and the turbos checked and cleaned. They do have a buildup of soot in the exhaust side.

Well, ready to start them up on the shop floor before install. I have a new water heater to put in before that happens. No way to do it with engines in. In the meantime I have cleaned the bilges, moved the fuel filters from the forward bulkhead to the aft, did some wiring etc. Every time I look at something I get another idea!

Hahhaha, you are a funny man! But just wait and see, you will face the same problems doing what you are doing! Maybe I should have put a bracket and a pair of outboards back there! But first lets hoist one together. After all, misery loves company! :drunk:

Oh without question already going through it mark!!! They are a labor of love. If you don’t love the boat and boating you will go nuts. I just keep telling myself that all the work will be worth it when she is in the water. I really love the layout of this boat!!! Cheers :drunk:
YOur love yours and it shows. The guy that owned mine just showed up to use it and it is now getting the attention it deserves! Keep the pictures coming
