raw water pumps on 4BTAs

Things are moving forward on the engines. Had valve jobs on both engines and new after coolers are coming. One thing that has bothered me as long as I have owned this boat is changing the raw water pumps. They are mounted on the left side of the engine under the injection pump. To change them you have to loosen the motor mount, jack up the engine and remove some fuel lines. Then you can remove the pump. Doing the port engine is impossible unless you are thin, short, and a contortionist. I am 62 and none of those anymore! So for the past 3 weeks with the engines out, I have been measuring and designing a new pump set-up. First I drew a workable design. Then I mocked it up and put it on the engine. Then I ordered the parts. Using a pedestal pump belt driven on a separate bracket I believe I have the answer. Parts came from all over the place and now the steel is at the welders along with two crankshaft adapters. Should be installed in a few weeks.

New after coolers arrived Thursday, and I picked up the pump drive from the machinist today. He had to take a lot of material off to get it to my dimensions. Look back at the pictures above with all the parts laid out with the water pumps. The original piece is on the left, right in front of the water pump.

Brackets are finally welded up, picked them up this morning. I got the nuts and bolts needed to mount the pump on it, and should be at the boat installing all this in the morning.

It took a lot of fine tuning but I got the brackets and pumps installed today on the motors.

Thanks, we are getting there. Ordered parts needed to finish it up (I think). I was able to get the after coolers set up. Since they do not make them anymore I had to fit another style. I made the mounting bracket, and I had to take off the air intake manifold and cut the pipe off to re-align it. I may be able to fire them up next week.

After Coolers are now fitted. Starting them up next week I think. Waiting on a beading tool to put that lip on the new turbo piping.
