Gas around boat after docking yesterday

Postby Pursuit3070 » Mon Jul 22, 2019 7:34 am

Hello there,

Looking for advice or recommendations.

We bought a 2005 Pursuit 3070 this summer and could not be more happy with it. We have hit some big chop on Lake Michigan and I can’t believe the boats ability to stay on plane at around 26 mph (4500 rpm) in 3-4 footers. We have twin 225 Yamaha 4S with 450 hrs on my engines.

On the other hand- yesterday for the first time after docking the boat in the marina I saw a ring of gas around the boat. There was a heavy wind (about 20mph) so I would not exactly pin point the source. We recently had the boat surveyed and the gas lines and tank were ok as they were replaced two years ago.

The one thing I did when cleaning the boat yesterday was to unclog the back left drains in the cockpit. From debris stuck in the drain the drain was not properly draining water. Would that have anything To do with gas in the water after we flashed that drain? Or am I swinging for the hills to wish for the best case scenario?

Went for an 1.5 hr cruise yesterday - where boat performed great and no gas leak (from going slow in another harbor was seen). Also- gas meter did not
Go down after docking the boat.

Thoughts or suggestions? Thank you so much in advance.

That could be oil from a trim pump or lower unit also.

Our 1993 2660 leaks oil from the trim pump. We actually switched to using vegetable oil in it to keep it working and healthier for the lake until we pull it out in the fall and have it fixed.

Very clever using vegetable oil. I grease my rudder shafts (I installed grease fittings) with food grade grease so as not to pollute also!
