Outboard oil tanks

Postby twedell » Thu Apr 28, 2011 8:57 am

I have a '96 2470 with twin Yamaha 150's. My problem is that I can not see the oil level in the 2 cycle oil tanks. The tanks just arent "see through" enough even with a flashlight. Any ideas?

Outboard oil tanks

I have the same issue on a '99 2470 CC w/ Yamaha 250, but haven't resolved it yet; I'll post something as soon as I do. I'm curious to see if anyone else has any thoughts about how to monitor the oil level of the remote oil tank.

Outboard oil tanks

I had a 250OX66 on my 1996 2470. 60-65 gallons of fuel usually meant a gallon of oil. I could usually barely see the tank that was mounted helm side by pulling the plate from the splash well.
I've repowered with a 300 4S AND DON'T MISS THE 2S OIL FILLING PROCESS!

Outboard oil tanks

I just wanted to follow up on this thread. I was able to clean off my remote oil tank to the point that I can determine the oil level visually. Also, from the other poster to this thread, it sound like the remote oil tank may be in a different location on the '96 2470 vs. the '99 2470. My tank is mounted midship just forward of the engine (basically under the aft fish well. With either of the access plates removed, I can see the oil level without a problem now that I've cleaned the tank.
