Leaking holding tank

Postby Woodworker2001 » Sun Mar 22, 2020 5:08 pm

Well I got a real kick in the nuts here today as I was cleaning up and getting ready to lave the boat. Seen some odd green like residue between the battery and waste holding tank. Right up against the tank looked to be damp. So I started wiping it up and a little bit later checked it and it was getting wet again coming from under the tank. :banghead:
:censored: Me. As anyone with a 3000 express knows I don’t see a way that tank comes out. Without at a minimum pulling the battery hatch actuator and exhaust off that side of the motor.

I really hate being a boat owner right now!!!!

Leaking holding tank

OUCH!!! How about a picture? Is the tank empty? I wonder if there is a product you could float in there to seal any leaks.

Picture will be difficult with all none essential travel and business in lock down after midnight Monday. No the tank isn’t empty. The people who stored it were supposed to empty it but apparently missed pumping mind out when they pulled it  I am beyond frustrated with it right now. The problem Gould be getting it clean #1 and then how would you get the product in there #2. What a day this has been just when I started to feel ok about the work I got done.

Do you have a 3000 express? How much did you have to remove?

I took mine out last year, secure hatch cover up ,remove piston , remove battery, take off the exhaust hoses(4"). Then I removed all the hoses and wiring at the tank and after 1 hour trying to wrestle the old tank out( with a no go) I used my sawsall and cut it up to remove. The new one I purchased from Defender a little smaller at 11gallons which has all the connections as the old one.

About exactly what I thought. Was that tank comparable with the vacuflush system that comes in these boats?

Leaking holding tank

Are the holding tanks in the 3000 express problematic? I have a 99 and the tank fills up after gallons. I've pumped it out, the pump out guy says its empty, hes even flushed it with water and pumped it out a few times back to back, but it will always fill up after a couple gallons. In the 99's there was no panel in the head that shows status of tank and a switch for macerator, so I just assume its full because nothing flushes anymore and the water sits in the toilet bowl rather than going down. The access looks miserable, so I haven't really tried to get into it to see if there is a blockage somewhere.

I don’t have issues with mine filling up. It is an 18 gallon tank on mine. I can use it many times and not fill it over half. I do have an indicator in my head that shows the level. The vacuflush system should suck it right down. Are you turning on the electric head switch. Do you hear the vacuums pump turning on? Do your initial flushes have good strong vacum? It should sound like an aircraft toilet when you flush

I do, with 4bta's and an Onan generator in a sound shield,I removed the obvious (hoses, battery, exhaust, deck piston ect) and got the entire tank out past everything without damage,I removed the vacuum tank off the holding tank prior to sliding it all out and past the generator.

After I repaired the tank it all went back together
