3000 Express Cabin Leak

Postby CGaviator » Wed Jun 08, 2011 9:47 am

Any of you have problems with water entering the cabin and pooling under the forward berth? I have a 1999 3000 express and have had this for about a year after heavy rains when the boat is low on gas. It enters the cabin and runs forward. I also find a lot of water in the shower sump area (under the sink in the head and through the hole down by the pump.) I just noticed some plywood issues on the overhead so I think it might be coming from topside. Never thoguht about the windshield screws.

3000 Express Cabin Leak

Postby MarkT » Wed Jun 08, 2011 9:23 pm

Hello again CG. Look in the compartment where the battery switches are. There is a shower sump in there that needs to be cleaned out from time to time. Both sumps (under the head sink also) should have plastic covers on them also. It is possible to flood the area under the sink by not having power on to the sump pump and letting liquid down the drains. The water system will still work some after shutting the switch off so you can use the faucet but the sump will not drain! You should put a bilge plug in the hole under the steps to prevent bilge water from running forward.
I took all the windshield screws out (side windows also) and siliconed the area before putting back the screws. Also did seems in the window frame. You can get new black rubber from Pursuit to replace the old that shrinks. I use black silicone to seal the rubber gaps.
Chances are you also have the same leaks that we are or had. Rudder post seals seem to be common.
I also had the thru hull for the a/c discharge crack allowing water to slowly seep in. The cleaner you keep the bilges the easier it is to find leaks. I crawl around down there all the time.

3000 Express Cabin Leak

Postby Blue Water » Thu Jun 09, 2011 11:15 am

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I have a 2000 WA 2470 and I get water in the bilge when running offshore in chop. Trolling and running in smooth seas, no water. It only gets water in the bilge when fully loaded to fish (four 190lb men, 139 gal. fuel, 125lb ice, etc.). I cannot figure out where the water is coming from. Any thoughts?

3000 Express Cabin Leak

CGaviator - I had the windshield screws siliconed and I was still finding fresh water underneath the cabin bilge. As it turned out, while in the process of replacing the rudder seals, I turned on the fishbox macerator to remove some water from the fishbox and water was leaking from the actual pump/macerator. Fixed the macerator fishbox leak ($60 kit) and very little water gets in now. Keep in mind that you will always have some water in the bilge and it accumulates underneath the cabin becuase the boat is bow heavy, expecially when your fuel tanks have less fuel.

Pursuit also suggested that I check the horn.

Good luck, Mano

3000 Express Cabin Leak

This is great info! I'll plug that drain under the batteries and check the power to the sump. We rarely use any of the cabin water fixtures. Now I feel like I have a place to start!

3000 Express Cabin Leak

If I remember right it was about $1400 total and I had to buy them through a dealer.

Right now this water leak and discolored sole is making me crazy. Stepping on the cabin sole and hearing and seeing water come up from under the floorboards is sickening.

I am located in Manhasset bay, Queens, NY

Joe
