2003 Pursuit 3000 express alternator belt help!!!! hose battery not charging

Postby 3pursuit3000 » Sun Mar 07, 2021 8:39 am

Would someone please tell how to tighten the port side belt on a 3000 express with crusaders. I am not able to get to the bolts no matter what I try. I only have the hatch open as far as the switch will go. Is there a trick? Thank you

2003 Pursuit 3000 express alternator belt help!!!!

I have the same boat but with diesels, a couple of other members have Mercs. One thing we all have in common is the lack of access. I have had to raise the hatch as high as possible, and then use a block and tackle tied overhead to raise it higher after disconnecting from the lift rams. It gives you a good bit more of access. Post a picture of the engine room if you can.

As mark said I have mercs. Mine have a tensioner pulley. When I got mine the belt was just a bit too long and I had to get a shorter one because I was out of travel on the tensioner. I have to turn sideways and lay down between the motors to access the front, but I am a small guy (damn good thing with these boats). Love the boat hate the engine room.

There is a great post on here about some extensions a member made for the engine hatch actuators out of some copper tubing.

Is it possible to install a tensioner on there? there is nothing to apply tension with unless you use a crow bar and hold it while trying to tighten the bolt. And the top one is impossible to get the nut in the back.

Maybe the a/c breaker has failed? I doubt the wires failed. How new is the house battery? May be worth pulling and having tested even if new

Battery charger is under the cabin steps above the tabs. It does have wires that run down and connect to the tabs system that could be broken off or corroded. If I remember they connect at the bottom where the batteries enter the tabs system. Have you checked voltage at the battery while engine is running and while charger is on. Should be around 14 volts

Directly above the charger is three large circuit breakers for the battery charge system (12 volt) you will see them if you pull the courtesy light of the top of the stairs, check those.

If it still has the original Pro mariner charger installed there is fuses behind a panel on the charger (same side as the power supply cable) (120vac)

It will be a lot easier to work on if you remove the three screws on the bottom hinge of the top stair and get it out of your way or take out the stairs.

Yours will look a little different to these pics, the location where the three circuit breakers are (circled) was where the original battery charger was located, the X’s is where the circuit breakers where installed from the factory and you can not access them or see them.
