2005 2870 cabin leak

Just a note to all with my 2005 2870: I started getting water dripping down from the head linner on both sides of the cabin. Removing the screws holding the head linner showed that the veneer that the linner is glues to was soaked and rotting.

The problem was traced to the holes drilled under the windshield for the wiper wires. Neither side has correctly sealed. Water was slowly leaking through the holes and rotted out the veneer support for the liner. "What a terrible way to run the wiper wiring".

We pulled all the wiring out and after cleaning the holes, sealed both with two part epoxy. We then used the windshield built in wiring tracks to run the six wiper wires back to the end on the starboard side windshilded "that's why the windshild has the tracks". Drilled a small hole inside the track and ran the wiring down into the side hull and over to the breakers.

I was very disappointed when I saw the lack of workmanship shown at the factory on the windshiled wiper wiring. Fortunately I corrected the issue before major damage was done. I just needed to replaced a few square feet of veneer. If the problem had gotten worst I may have had to disassembly the whole head compartment to get access to the starboard leak. The port leak was not to bad to get to for veneer replacement.

Having been a long time Tiara owner with below gunnel port-holes, I was always fighting leaks during heavy seas. I did not expect to have cabin leak issues when I went to a Pursuit with above gunnel port holes. My portholes are nice and water tight. It was the windshield and a poor wiring design that let the water in.

Amazing. I have a 1999 3000 express and had the same damage after I purchased the boat. Mine was from the windshield screws going into the fiberglass. You would think that had been corrected after so many years.
