Is an F225 enough power on a 2470 WA?

Postby Rjman36 » Wed May 04, 2011 11:14 am

Anyone have a Pursuit 2470 WA with the F225 Yamaha? I'm looking at a 2004 model and thought it might be a touch underpowered. Thoughts? Serious buyer looking for a clean late model 2470 if you have or know of one for sale. Thanks, new to the forum.

I have a 2001 wa2470 with a 250 ox66 motor. It has enough power as I use it mostly for fishing the Great Lakes.Good hole shot to get on plane. Buckeye 2

I have a 1996 that I bought new in 1996. I had a 250 OX66. I agree with buckeye 2. Decent power. I re powered in late 2007 with a Suzuki DF300. I consider the DF300 excellent power, performance and fuel economy for a 2470! My thoughts on a F225 would be barely adequate. Not good full of fuel a 4 people.

I test drove a 2003 with the F225. Felt it was OK, but certainly would be borderline with a full load of fuel, gear and persons. I ended up buying a 2003 2470 WA with twin 150 HPDI's. More than enough power with 9 people aboard. In rough seas or difficult situations, more is always better. Good luck!!

I have a 1995 2470 with the 250 Yamaha SWS 2 stroke. I have thought about re-powering just for long term fuel economy and reliability but there is plenty of power with the 250 horses.. I know it isn't a 4 stroke but 250 is 250. I think the 225 would be fine but it is rated to 300.

I own a 2003 2470WA with a Yamaha F225. I thought the boat was under powered as I was used to running at 27knots on a twin inboard 330. However, the boat does well but yea, slightly under powered but not by much.

I use the boat in Tampa Bay and have bottom paint on the boat. It is very economical (great trade off) but I do not have a hardtop. It runs at about 24.5 - 25 knots loaded with fuel and water and three people. I have a tow eye aluminum structure mounted to the outboard well and we waterski. I get up (185lbs) without much trouble. However, I would say the boat is marginal for that function. Fishing and crusing I never miss the speed. The boat is fantastic in heavy weather and dry. Again, the motor is so quiet it impresses me everytime I start it up. I would not hesitate to buy it again with the same motor.

One note: when I repower in a few more years I will be installing a V6 300HP yamaha. You can never have enough power and by then my boy will be 200 lbs and still want to ski. I can only imaging how fast the boat will be then.

Also I am thinking of stripping the bottom paint off to get a couple more Knots per hour.
