3000 express cabin leak

Postby ropes » Fri May 27, 2011 12:08 pm

I bought a 2000-3000 express fron Florida at Christmas time and am using it on the west coast of Canada. We were out last weekend and attempted to anchor in a quiet bay but I noticed a lot of floating logs around so decided to move to a close by dock. We were docked at about 8 pm. My wife woke up to use the head and stepped into an inch of water on the cavin floor. It was salt water and was not raining. We checked the engine room and no water other than a bit in the bilge. I checked all of the thru hull fittings and could not see any water coming in. The water was coming in above the floor level as the storage bunks under the berth were wet. Th only thing I could think of was the water from the anchor locker coming in through a leak there. There was about 6 gallons that we cleaned up. We cruised all day and it has been a week and no further water. Any ideas? Thanks Chris.

3000 express cabin leak

Check the thru hulls for the a/c drain. There is an access panel behind the aft dinette seat back cushion. You have to pull the back off, it is held in place by plastic pins.

3000 express cabin leak

I found that the leak was from the sump for the head and galley sinks. The duck valve was failing and water was siphoning back into the sump. I simply closed off the existing through hull fitting and drilled a new one above the water line. The sump would fill every 10 minutes and then the bilge would kick in and drain it. The problem was when the house batteries were off the pump would not run and the sump would overflow into the cabin.
