Through hull fittings

Postby ropes » Thu Jun 16, 2011 12:49 pm

I recently had a problem with water coming into the cabin of my '2000'-3000 express. I finally found the problem and it was the sink sump under the sink in the head. The through hull valve was letting water come back through the bilge pump so it was running every 5 minutes as the sump filled up. The problem was when I shut off the main breaker on house power which cut off power to the bilge pump.Water was overflowing the sump. Glad I found it before we sunk as this could have been disasterous. The through hull has a manual shut off which I have closed. My question is is there a one-way ball valve that is stuck or maybe something stuck in the valve? Is it easy to disasemble and check? Are there rebuild kits? Thanks Chris.

Chris thats a good question and when I get out to my boat I will take a look. In the meantime you can e-mail Ty Hare at pursuit and ask him.

Through hull fittings

I decided that I would never let that problem happen again so I sealed off the through hull fitting that was below the water and drilled another 6 inches above the water line and connected the outflow hose to that. So what if my neighbours see the dish water exiting the hull. It is peace of mind. I may do the same for two other below water through hull fittings the next time the boat is out of the water( one is for the shower sump which is one I will change for sure. The other is the deck drains which is not as critical as siphoning would not occur there.)
