Newbie 2470 owner questions

Postby GoinSouth » Sun Jul 17, 2011 5:55 pm

Any info or comments appreciated!

1) OK, I give up. Where did they put the bilge pump in my 2470? I have a switch, I can hear it when I turn it on, but I can't find it! Back under the engine in one of the two deck plates?

2) Not sure if one of my guages is original - it is a multiguage showing Oil Level, Gas Level, Battery Charge and Temperature. It shows them with 4 lcd bars going around the outside edge of the guage. It also has a Trim reading in the middle which isn't hooked up since it doesn't show anything. The others work but are so dim that I have to hold my hands around them and look closely. Want to replace it with the same (no room to break the 4 out on the dash without a major repositioning of everything) but can't find a serial number, make, model, nothing. Has anyone seen this gauge before?

3) There is a Water Pressure switch on the switch panel and another near the "Wash Down" hose connection on the starboard side of the transom. Is one for fresh and the other for raw water washdown? Where is my fresh water connection?

Sorry for my newbie-ness! The Owners Manual isn't clear on these.

GoinSouth - I don't own a 2470 but my brother does. I think the bilge is under your aft fishbox.

For the rest, sorry!

Thanks for the hint! I mean, its a bilge pump, its GOT to be back there somewhere. Just not sure how to get to it. I have yet to get a drop of water out of it. To the point I want to check it and make sure it is working right.

I've got a 2001 2470 CC...the aft bilge pump is just forward of the transom.. open two access hatches just forward of the transom....you can look down and see it.

I read some where there is a forward bilge pump....if anyone knows where IT is...please let me know.

In the 2470 it is in the bottom of the boat below the swim platform. There are 2 round access hatches in the swim Step/ Motor well, just in front of the engine (if you have an outboard that is). If you turn the handle and lift on the plate, you will see the bilge pump, just forward of the drain plug. I don't believe there is a forward bilge pump, at least not on the 1990's 2470"s.

On your other questions.. The "Water Pressure" switch on your helm is for the 20 gallon fresh water tank, it feeds the spray head in your sink. The "Washdown" switch on your Starboard gunwale is for raw water. The pickup is on the same side aft just forward of the trim tab. It is probably a black screen scoop pickup. There is a thru hull valve in the compartment on the transom where your Perko switch and all of your pumps are. You will want to open and close the thru hull valve by moving the lever, down is closed, straight up is open. Hope this helps

Thanks to all, bilge pumps are right there. Just have to be smart enough to look back by the motor and open them up. Duh! Fresh water and raw wash check out as well. I see two filters in with the Perko and assume one is fresh water and the other raw. The raw needs cleaning BAD. One thing that is a disaster waiting is the mention of a drain plug. I should probably have a spare and know what type it is! Removable from the outside of the hull I assume? Is it one of the black expanding ones that has a flip pull on it? Last question for today is where is the paddlewheel for the speedo located on the hull? It is very inaccurate but thats another issue. Thanks fo all of the help!

Hi- The plug should be a 1/2 inch bronze screw in plug. You can get one at most any hardware or plumbing store. Do not use one of those expanding piece of junk. It should be put in from outside the boat and tightened well with a wrench then removed when you pull the boat out, ideally on a steep ramp so the boat can drain well. Then leave the plug out until you are ready to launch again. My speed indicator is on my transducer so I cant help you there.
