Has anybody replaced the hardtop fluorescent courtesy light under the hard top on a 3000 express with anything?

No there is a fluorescent bulb in a tube under the hard top. The screws are gonna be corroded I am sure which is a whole nother problem but just curious what folks have done.

I purchased a dual color rail light several years ago (red/white LED’s) pulled it apart and inserted it into the existing courtesy light housing and sealed it up with silicone. It was a perfect fit,and its bright!
Having the red LED’s is a bonus,we can use the red light without interfering with night vision.

Something like this

or this

Another alternative would be to remove the flouro and its electronics from the existing light housing, buy some LED strip and mount it where the flouro globe was.

I don't think all 30s are the same. I have seen some with a fluorescent light under the top and mine like others has 4 lights spread around almost at the corners.

I have seen that set-up before. I don't have any pictures of mine but looking at your picture, see the flat plates in the corners of the tubing at the front where the aluminum legs are welded to the top pieces? And there are two at the rear of the top? That is where many of us have small hockey puck type lights. 4 all told.
