Steering piston question

Postby Fishin-n-Wishin » Tue Aug 16, 2011 7:48 pm

Had a friend (SeaCraft owner) help me to swap motors and in doing so placed several "dings" in the steering piston rod with a hammer while trying to loosen the nut off the steering bracket. Question; is it possible to get the steering piston sanded down nicely with emory cloth/paper or is my remaining life span not worth the time? Point is that the seals are leaking badly now and need to either buy the seal kit or replace the HC5340-42 altogether!

It can't hurt to give it a try (sanding down with 300 grit wet/dry, don't sand lengthwise) but I believe you will end up getting a new unit.

MarkT - Thanks for the info! I'll give it a whirl but have already been pricing new units.
