2470 Bilge Water?

Postby NorthStar » Sat Sep 10, 2011 6:10 pm

Anybody else have the issue of water getting into their bilge? If so, I would like some ideas where it may be coming from. I have tried several things and haven't eliminated it in mine.

2470 Bilge Water?

Postby WrecklessPursuit » Mon Sep 12, 2011 11:09 pm

Yes,maybe....

I had an issue with water, open the access(remove the retangle screwed in plate) to the bilge area and check the connection, the hoses that pursuit used to plumb the drain where cut short and the double hose clamps had come loose. When I anchored up and a couple people stood in the back the bilge pump started to go crazy.

Hope it helps

Thanks, so you re-did the hose clamps? Or extended the hoses to the drain fittings and that fixed it?

I slide the hose back on tightend the clamps... if you are a bit of gymnist you can reach to some of the hose clamps and tighten them up has well for good measure.

I contacted pursuit about my findings since I though that was a dangerous issue, it not for the bildge I may have been in trouble... it all work out in the end.

I guess it import to keep an eye on the bildge area, I am planning to add an alarm to mine since I frequently take a peek through the access pannel while off-shore to make sure that there is not water in it.

Take the plug out of the boat... place something in the scupper on one side of the boat and a garden hose in the other. Turn the water on and if you notice water coming out the plug on the bottom of the boat you know where the water is entering the bildge

Ok, trying to understand here.. So you mean plug the scupper discharge fitting on the side of the hull and force water into the other side??

You are right. I believe, that the two deck, two engine splash, bait station, freshwater sink and the bait sink are plumbed together using pvc, hoses and clamps and exit out either side of the boat through the scuppers. By restricting the flow out of one side and inducing water through the other you will flood the plumbing. By having the plugging one you will notice water being introduced into the bildge area immediately. If that happens you can be sure that water was entering the bildge somewhere in the plumbing for that area.

If water enters the bilgde then remove the cover in the engine splash area, repeat and you will find the leak.

Did you ever find the leak?
