Raymarine raydome

Postby Coastal Pursuit » Sun Feb 26, 2012 9:43 pm

I am installing a new 4kw dome on my hardtop.
My question is who has a wedge under there dome?
Who has it mounted directly to the top?
My boat is a 3070 Offshore cc

Mine is directly on the top, towards the front. If I ever get a new unit on this boat (1999 3000 exp) I will put a wedge under it. At idle speed I lose the target at about 25yds. At speed it is worse since the bow is up.

I put a 4" pedistal with a slight rake forward on my 4k raymarine. If your 3070 is like my 2870 then the pedistal mounts over top of the pipe that runs to about the center of the top just for radar mounting. You must have height and a slight rake forward, if not you on plane performance will suffer. I find the 4 inch high pedistal gives me plenty of height to shot over the front lip of the hardtop. Plus the slight forward rake helps even more.

I included a pix of the install.

I have to keep mine on the hardtop due to rack storage. So the mount wont work for me. I know that is the best way to do it though!

Measure the angle at cruise and get a mount wedge with that angle.
