Salt pits on windshield

Postby ironsinker » Fri Apr 27, 2012 9:19 am

Anyone know how to remove pitting from a windshield? I"m assuming I will need some sort of abrasive to polish it? Any ideas?

Salt pits on windshield

I have tried everything out there it seems short of sanding them out. I use Aluma Guard and it makes it look nicer but there are still pits. I have used the Mothers Power Ball on a cordless drill with all sorts of products but still the pits remain. If you sand it then you will have to paint the frame as the anodizing would be taken off, plus you would want to fill the pits before painting. Keep us posted if you come up with a solution.

I have seen several boats where the windshield frame was removed from the boat (glass and gaskets removed) and taken to a paint shop and powdercoated in white. It's quite a job but the results were fantastic.

I have seen that also. I can't justify taking my boat apart for that ...yet!
