Pursuit 3000 Offshore - 1999

Postby fabalc » Fri May 25, 2012 5:45 am

Hi,
I'm in the process of a re-power from gas to diesel. The boat was stripped of the engines, transmissions, and generator. Not to mention a few high priced objects such as the pompanette chairs, anchor, anchor rope and chain, and electronics.

I can't thank enough a few individuals who are making the re-power a success: John Spencer from Spencer Boat who is doing a phenomenal job maintaining Merrill Stevens alive in Miami, Jorge Perea from Perea Diesel (best in Miami), and Tony from SeaboardMarine on the west coast (boatdiesel.com). As you can see, I do my research.

I'm going with twin Cummins 6BT 210 hp. Sounds low or power but I'm more interested in economy and range than speed (not a speed boat). The vessel should perform well at 20 to 23 mph with a top speed of 26 to 27 mph depending on how I tweak the props. Pictures are forthcoming.

The only thing I lack is a platform - Looking for a swim platform to mount on the back. Any ideas, send them my way.

Cesar.

Interested to know how you got on after fitting the 6BT's -i suspect a bit low on power to get the speed you are expecting?

The sea trial went as planned, just a little shy of max RPM. Most reputable shops recommend 2700 RPM instead of 2600 RPM. F&J props in Ft. Lauderdale re-worked the props from 21 pitch to 20. I will inform once I sea trial with new pitch. The previous trial was as follows...
