Recent used pursuit purchase help

Postby sflaguy5 » Mon Aug 13, 2012 7:39 pm

I have recently puchased a Pursuit cuddy cabin for me and my family. I have taken it on a couple cruises to peanut island and on a few fishing trips. I am having some problems as a new ( used ) boat owner .

First of all I believe the owner was mistaken when he sold me the boat and said it was 1989 model. The hull id # is susb 3138 1990. The last four of the # simply state 1990. Also I am not sure of the exact model. Any help in finding O & M's for this model would be great.

There are two fish boxes and a live well that all have open ports in the bottom to the open ocean. I have looked for threaded compression plugs and snap plugs and cannot find to fit, are they supposed to be open to the sea? I dont thjink they are but....

When trimmed up with a ( i believe ) a 1996 150 Yamaha SW series outboard the boat tilts hard to the port side. Does the water in previous question have anything to do with this ?

The steering is very shaky. Seems like the hydraulic steering is working fine, it is the actual pivot point on the motor that is either rusted or the bearings / gears are shot due to lack of maintenence. I found 3 zurch fitings that looked like they were never greased....ever on the shaft of the outboard.

I replaced the bilge pump and float with new and they work fine. There is a primary and I added secondary. However the cabin of the boat DOES NOT DRAIN AT ALL... I have put a plunger on it after it fills and put a pressure cleaner in it to see if there was simply a clog. No luck. Does this tie to the bilge throu a hull drain, or is it totally seperate ?

These are the just the beginning. Any help from owners of similar boats will really help memout to making this boat be a great investment. I cannot depend on the previous owner becuase i am sure this would be a 10k plus baot if he did not neglect the way he did. Feel free to call @ 561 239 6710, or e mail with any questions or help.

Boat is a 1990, but not for the reason you said -

Hull ID translation -

SUS - manufacturer (double check the SUS - current Pursuits are SSU)
B3 - model (a 23?)
138 - 138th B3 built
I9 - hull laid in Sept 1989 (That is an I, not a 1 - I = 9th letter in the alphabet - 9th month is Sept - next digit is year)
90 - model year

Can you post some photos of your boat and maybe the problem areas you're speaking of? Photos may help identify what you're asking.

Your fish boxes should have drains in the bottom of them that drain out of the boat into the ocean. The water that goes out the drain holes should come out of the boat near the transom...probably close to where your bilge pumps drain out. I'm not sure what you mean open to the ocean??

Some boats need trim tabs to run level. I have a Pursuit 2270 Kodiak and don't really have an issue for the most part. Every once in awhile I'll need to have someone switch sides on the boat to level it out. However, a friend had a 22 ft Mako center console and that thing always needed some kind of trim even when he was alone on the boat.

Don't know what you mean by your cabin won't drain? Reply with some photos if you can.

When you are replying to a post, look at the bottom of the page, where it says "attach a file after posting" Check that, then hit submit, it will give you a prompt to attach your pix.

My live well has two through hull fittings, both are threaded. One is for an upright piece of pipe that acts as a fill/aerator the other is i believe simply a drain. They are are the same size as the main hull plug and I think you should be able to find a bronze threaded plug that fits. I however simply use a standard expanding rubber plug. I installed them when the boat was on the trailer, however if you get the boat up on plane the boxes should drain and you can plug them while still on plane. My cuddy also has a drain plug which empties into the bilge. I use the same type plug in it. Hope this helps.
