Salt Water from Sandy

Did anyone else have to worry about Sandy? I had my boat hauled about a week before the storm was even mentioned. I winterized her and had her shrink wrapped. I thought I had it licked. Well the storm surge was high enough that water came into the hull through the drain plug. I was not able to get to her for about a week. After inspection and de-watering, I noted that the water almost touched the bottom of the port engine, but no wiring was touched. I flooded the hull again with a mix of Salt Away and let it sit for some time. Then after draining I sponge dried the bilges and put in two chemical moisture absorbing tubs. Hopefully that will be it and I was lucky.
That brought up a debate in the marina, leave the drain plug in or take it out. If mine was in I would not have had this problem. But other boats on a slightly lower grade would have started floating away. In fact some boats stored in the lower rack of the high and dry did start floating but not enough to actually move from the racks.

I too took my boat out well prior to Sandy, winterized and wrapped. I also did the debate. I decided to put plug in. Boat floated down the street and crashing into neighbor's house. Boat filled up with water from roof and swamped her. Total loss. So you really just can never tell. The good news is, insurance paid off and i was able to upgrade from a 22' Sea-pro to a 2007 2570CC with T/150 Yamaha's. .

Sounds like you have done the correct maintenance. I would also use some mold prevent that can be found at http://biocidelabs.com/BioCide100.html

Were are you located?

Thanks for that info. I have been out there a couple of times over the winter and so far so good. But if I see any signs of mold when I start to uncover her I will look that stuff up.
I am located out on the north fork of eastern Long Island in Matittick, on the Peconic Bay. We have had a boat there for 17 years now.

I know the area well. My family has property in Mattituck. Love the North fork.

I love it also. We are at Strongs Marina on James Creek. It sure has changed out there in the last 17 years. You ever come boating out there?
