Fuel Smell in Cabin of OS315 Models before 2012

Postby chesapeakeOS315 » Thu Sep 25, 2014 8:28 pm

Can anyone shed light on this issue that seems to be common in the 2008-2011 model OS315's? I get mixed feedback from owners and sellers and brokers and the like about the cause of the odor and the remedy. In one case, the owner told me that he was told by Pursuit that as long as he could get the boat to them in Florida they would fix it at no cost by removing the old tank and replacing it with a new one - making the boat stronger once they were completed in the process. Additionally, while they had his boat they would also fix other smaller items for him gratis because they took so much pride in their boats - sounds like a stretch but then again, they are a high end builder of premium vessels... thoughts? Thanks.

A friend of mine with a 2008 315 OS had that fuel smell problem and after a few attempts at a solution by the dealer the boat was shipped to Pursuit and they replaced the tank or tanks and resolved the problem at no cost to him. The repair took place in 2012. Call Pursuit direct and discuss it with them to confirm this factory repair at no cost to the consumer. My friend bought new and I'm not sure if that makes a difference. The gas fume smell is a major problem and since that is such a beautiful boat the investment of the transportation costs seem a worthwhile expenditure. Also, when the time to sell comes along you boat may be devalued by this problem by more than the shipping cost you will incur. Maybe the Pursuit transports can pick up and deliver your boat back to you via the units they use to transport the new boats to dealers at a reasonable cost. Good luck.

Fuel Smell in Cabin of OS315 Models before 2012

I bought a 315 OS from a friend last summer. He actively chased Pursuit to replace the tanks which is a very complicated process (cutting the deck out, putting it all back together etc). He said he had to really chase them but eventually they agreed. While the boat was at Pursuit he had pumps replaced while the deck was open and replaced all of the cushions and bolsters in the boat. Not sure if he had to pay for that work or not but know that he did not have to pay for the fuel tanks.

I checked with the factory on replacing the fuel tanks in my 2008 OS285. They are no longer doing this as a warranty repair (as of 12/31/14?). Their offer was to sell me the tanks at their cost. I would have to go elsewhere to have the work done at my cost.

I believe they will still do the venting fan installation.
